Cinnamon Bun Popper

 Cinnamon Bun Popper

Hook: Kink Shank #6
Head: Build Up of Closed Cell Foam
Tail: Rooster Hackle Yellow
Collar: Scrub-Ology Yellow
Legs: Silly Legs Yellow/Black
Thread: Uni-Thread 8/0 White
Eyes: Stick on
Coat the head in UV Resin.

Thread your hook. Black or white thread does the trick. Whip finish and lay the bobbin down for a bit.

Tie down a piece of foam as long as the kink portion of the hook. About a hook gap wide. Trim before or after this step. Your preference.

Coat with adhesive. As seen here I am sponsored by Krazy glue. Or the CVS is 10 minutes away and that's what they stock.

Cut another piece of foam as long as the first. Wide enough to saddle over the first piece.

Saddle it over. Pinch till it is set. You're going to get glue on your fingers. Accept it.

For this size, it will take a second saddle. Glue over layer two. Saddle up.

Place your saddle over the build.

Pinch it into place. Hold till set. Nip at it to smooth sharp edges with the foam. Please use your old scissors here.

Bodkin a hole through. Need this in a minute.

Pick your bobbin up and build a thread base behind the head. ( I know it looks rough as a cob. Be patient.)

Remember those rooster hackles somebody told you needed. And you probably by now though it was a joke. Go get them. I'll wait,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Your back. They were under crap, right?
Pick two. Trim them down and turn them cup-side out. You want them to splay.

Tie them in.

The collar can traditionally be hackled here. Or.. Try palmering in some Scrubby Yarn. Whip finish it down. This ends the thread portion of the program.

Now back to that hole. Take two or three rubber legs and tie a knot in the middle. Use a Knit Picker or dental floss threader or even a piece of heaver mono to pull them in.

Pull the knot to the middle. Stop do not start trimming like it is life or death. Leave till you are done.

Eyes on poppers are important. Even critical. Or maybe a cultural habit we just do. I think it looks better with them. I'm not sure the fish give a crap.

Eyes on.

This is actually important. Coat all foam and the eyes with UV Resin. Solarez is also a sponsor. Or it was the only one I could find with a brush. Thin works better for coating.

UV light to set. Is anybody amazed at what glows in UV on a fly? I am actually 5 years old. I do.

5 year old me being entertained :)

Look less crappy hum? Now trim the legs. I know it's been killing you.

Cimmaon Bun Popper
(I give things silly names based on random thoughts. The layers look like a cinnamon bun. Or I'm hungry.)
You are more likely to lose it in a tree or big fish than tear it up.
